Properties of a Magnet
A magnet is a piece of iron or steel which has the property of attracting small pieces of iron. Two properties of a magnet are: 1. It attracts small pieces of iron or other magnetic materials. Nickel and cobalts are also magnetic materials. 2. When suspended freely in air by a silk thread, one end of the magnet always points towards the geographical north of the earth also called north pole or N-pole. The other end of the magnet which points towards the geographical south of the earth is called south pole or S-pole.
